Melinda Mallia came to Travis County in 1992 to identify funding sources and obtain grants to support the development of environmental programs. Her work with the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP) began after the permit for the BCCP was issued in 1996; serving as a manager for grants and land acquisition for the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP). This work to complete the terms of the regional, 30-year permit for the BCCP continues to the present. Melinda currently serves as Natural Resources Program Manager for Travis County. Her group manages 12,733 acres of preserve land, issues endangered species take permits through the BCCP for residential and commercial development, and conserves private, non-preserve lands through a Conservation Easement Program.
