Her work with the Balcones Canyonlands Conservation Plan (BCCP) began after the permit for the BCCP was issued in 1996; serving as a manager for grants and land acquisition for the Balcones Canyonlands Preserve (BCP). This work to complete the terms of the regional\, 30-year permit for the BCCP continues to the present. Melinda currently serves as Natural Resources Program Manager for Travis County.
