DESCRIPTION:Happy New Year! \nWe won’t be holding our regularly scheduled luncheon this month. Instead we hope you can join us on Wednesday\, January 29th for a networking happy hour! This will be a great opportunity to meet and connect with other environmental professionals. We will also be collecting donations for our 2020 scholarship. \nAshley MacMillan\, PE will also be doing an informal talk on “Reduction of Environmental Footprint for Renewable Energy Site Development using Geosynthetics.” See the information below for more detail. \nHope to see you there! \n  \nWhen: Wednesday\, January 29\, 2020 \nWhere: The Highball (1120 South Lamar Boulevard\, Austin\, TX 78704) \nTime: 5 to 7 pm \n*Please note this is BYOB (buy your own beverage) \n  \n \n  \nReduction of Environmental Footprint for Renewable Energy Site Development using Geosynthetics: \nAvailable space demand continues to push us to develop new design methodologies involving the use of countless high-tech materials for the development of civil engineering structures\, as well efficiency needs for the execution of alternate energy infrastructure projects. The bearing capacity and soil stability requirements for site construction involves high geological diversity which makes finding the suitable construction site for energy projects challenging. We do not want to expend unnecessary resources in the development of project sites which aim to preserve our limited resources.  Many times\, the selected project site requires soil stabilization to improve the bearing capacity as well as minimize the environmental impact that is created during the construction. Let’s meet\, sip on some beverages and discuss the reduced environmental impact that geosynthetics can bring to solar and wind site development. \n  \nAbout the Speaker: \nAshley MacMillan\, PE has 11 years of geotechnical experience spanning a wide range of project history including; forensic evaluation of retaining wall failure\, earth retention structure repair\, soft soil stabilization/bridging and pavement design. Ashley finds an interest in giving back to her professional community and in young professional development\, serving on many past and current board positions of both the American Society of Engineers and Women’s Transportation Seminar. \n  \n  \n
